Accountability in Action
We stand in solidarity and support of women artists, most of whom don’t even get access to basic healthcare as it is.
Our hearts go out to the following people especially:
- Women en route to get an abortion who were told they cannot be treated
- People providing care at abortion clinics in Mississippi, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, South Dakota, North Dakota, Louisiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee who are now out of a job.
- Women and GIRLS being raped or molested right this minute who may be getting pregnant and will be forced to carry that child to term. (According to RAINN, the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization, an American is sexually assaulted EVERY 68 SECONDS).
- Pregnant people carrying a non-viable fetus whose own health is at risk and are unable to get care–and all women of color whose maternal mortality rate in the U.S. is already 3x higher than white women.
- Those unable to afford time off work or without funds to travel to states where abortion is still legal.
- And so many more people……
If you are as enraged as we are, please reach out. We believe in the power of arts to heal and create empathy. We know first-hand the power of women artists sharing their beliefs and fighting for justice.
For artists creating in Reproductive Justice space, please share your art, using the hashtag #AthenainAction. We will share it, highlight it, make introductions where we can to various leaders in our community. And everyone, please VOTE in the next election and DONATE to clinics and organizations that are left to support the influx of care needed.

Athena Project is the Colorado nonprofit that celebrates and nurtures women’s artistic expression, working actively for equality of opportunity, recognition and pay based on artistic merit alone.
Women account for just 25% of the playwrights produced across the Rocky Mountain Region. Only 5% of music producers are women. Only 30% of major American museums have women directors right now…

*At Athena Project, we believe that “women” means many things and can be a complicated term. We recognize that the term “women” does not automatically include all aspects of the gender spectrum. We want to create a safer space for the expression and growth for all women, trans and gender nonconforming individuals.
