Get away with sweeping views of pines and valleys at Bear Family Ranch. Beat the traffic to Kirkwood. We are on the way from the Bay area and just below snow line. Arrive Friday night with low snow closure risk. Saturday morning get to Kirkwood in just 45 min. For non skiers, go wine tasting in Sutter Creek. Hike directly from the backyard. Enjoy caves, mining relics, antique shopping. Only 2h from the Bay Area but feels a world away. And oh, the stars at night, you must see it to believe it!

The space

Enjoy stunning views from almost every room across 3000 sq feet at Bear Family Ranch. Take in the awesome view from the panoramic living room, the downstairs game room, or from one of the three queen beds. The ranch can accommodate up to 10 comfortably. Enjoy luxurious comfort with 4 bedrooms (3 queens, and 1 twin room) and 3 bathrooms.

(Note: The chimney of the main floor fireplace's is under temporary maintenance so no fires in that fireplace for now, But the downstairs stove can be used. )

The ranch has 3 levels so everyone can have their own quiet space. The kids hang out downstairs while the adults enjoy some wine on the main floor. Enjoy free high speed internet, gourmet kitchen with granite counters and a large wrap-around deck. For yogis, there is a yoga room with deck access that adjoins the master bedroom. For kids, there is a game room with a foosball table, a large 70" screen TV fitted with X-box, Chromecast and a movie collection. Hike directly on the property and meet deer and turkeys that frequently visit.

We do get snow sometimes on the property as early as November. One year we had 1.5 feet accumulation, enough to go sledding in our backyard. Mostly when it snows it will stay on the ground for a day then melt away. So it looks very pretty but does not restrict access.

Strictly no smoking and no pets, no exceptions, as we are very allergic. Thank you for your consideration.

Strictly no smoking. $500 fine or lose your security deposit for smoking anywhere on the property, even outside. There is a strong fire hazard in the area and smoking can burn the whole place down. We the owners are also allergic to cigarette residue and we use the place as well. Please respect this house rule. Thank you.

Strictly no pets. We are very allergic to that as well and are unable to make exceptions. Please make alternate accommodations at home for your pets.

Neighborhood overview

The ranch is located off the Hwy 88 corridor. In the winter, easily reach the ranch on a Friday night without having to drive through heavy snow. The next morning when the traffic subsides, roads clear, and the sun is shining, make the drive up to Kirkwood for awesome boarding and skiing. We also love going sledding about 25 minutes up the hill, or snow-shoeing at beautiful Silver Lake. Prefer to stay warm? Cozy up to our fireplace and watch the snow dance outside. We often get a dusting of snow on property as early as November, but rarely too much so access stays easy. Enjoy the sweeping views from the couch or drop in on a winery or two.

In the summer, live in the center of outdoor activity. Stay on the ranch for short hikes, lazing around and stargazing; or drive 30 min uphill to alpine lakes for fishing, boating, hiking and kayaking. Caving is only 10 minutes away, while within 30 minutes you can find whitewater rafting on the Mokulumne (self-guided), historical tours of gold country, wine tasting and shows at the Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort.

House Rules

- No smoking please. No smoking inside the house or outside on the property anywhere. This is a strict rule because there is fire risk. And we are allergic to cigarette residue. Please respect this rule or lose the security deposit.
-No pets please, we stay here as well and are severely allergic to cats and dogs and rooms where they have stayed
- Rental age minimum of 21, Adults over 21 must be present at all times if minors are present
- No shoes inside the house
- Maximum 10 people, day or night, additional guests allowed only by written permission and incurs a charge of $50 per additional person per night
- Parties and Events larger than 10 people require written permission, please inquire
- If there is a rule violation, the hosts reserve the right to discontinue rental with no refund and to withhold security deposit
- Up to 4 vehicles only
- Guests must clean up dishes after use. If guests choose not to wash dishes before leaving, a $30 additional cleaning charge will be applied to pay our cleaning staff.
- Guests must keep stove and oven in reasonable condition. If deep cleaning is required, an additional $30 will be applied to pay our cleaning staff.
