PRODUCT MANAGEMENT

Product management is the sum total of much of my career combining my favourite parts of marketing and strategy with a smattering of technical knowledge. There's many different types and flavours of product manager. My favourite experiences have been in small companies where a product person truly gets to find out what the customer wants and builds it for them.

MARKETING

Find out what the customer wants and give it to them. How hard can that be ? Marketing can be as complex as you like but I am a faithful of Professor Mark Ritson and his no nonsense 'back to basics' strategic approach - start with segmentation, targeting and positioning. Then you get to play with the tactical toys but not before.

STRATEGY

A good strategy helps make choices obvious. Too many 'strategies' are great tomes which have little to no chance of every being implemented because they insist on boiling the ocean rather than making real choices that help people focus throughout an organisation.
