Fiber

Lehi is the tech epicenter of Utah and it’s time for our city to have the Internet services to match. Since 2014 I have been working to help private industries come into Lehi to offer competitive ISP services. It has proven difficult and expensive for the private industry to bring new services to Lehi. I investigated alternative approaches and came to the conclusion that Lehi should build its own fiber-optic network, and partner with the private sector to provide Internet services to all of Lehi. I voted to support the revenue bond for $65 million so Lehi City can deliver first-class Internet service to Lehi. This investment will help families and businesses now and well into the future without having to raise property or sales taxes.

Water

Utah is in its worst drought year on record, but Lehi residents and businesses have done an amazing job at conserving water! Lehi has two water systems, Culinary and Pressured Irrigation (PI). The Pressured Irrigation system provides water for landscaping and fire hydrants. The cost to the PI user is minimal and calculated by the size of your property lot. For example, I live on a 1/3 acre of property and I pay $13/mo for my PI water regardless of how much I use. To help conserve water, and secure this resource for our families in the future, I believe it is important to install a PI meter on each home and business in Lehi. This way each property owner can see how many gallons of PI water they use each month, and see a proposed cost if a rate were applied per gallon. I believe that having this information would give us the opportunity to make better decisions that will help to sustain this precious resource for the future.

PARC Tax

I love open space. I love parks. I love the arts. I love the feel and authenticity it gives our city, and the moments it provides our families to gather, play, and enjoy the outdoors. Lehi has the opportunity to build two regional parks, a center for the performing arts, and the continuation of building out trails that provide connectivity throughout the city. As we shop in most neighboring cities, we are paying their PARC tax, which benefits their communities. I support the PARC tax and truly believe it will benefit all of our families as we build venues where memories can be made.

First Responders

I fully support our first responders. I have had the opportunity over the years to do ride-alongs and participate in academy courses with our local fire and police departments. I participated in the hiring process for both our current fire and police chief. They, along with their fellow men and women in uniform are outstanding and the best at what they do. As a member of the City Council, I voted to make adjustments to our Police and Firefighters salaries and retirement programs to ensure that they are compensated fairly for the job they perform. I also voted to approve both the new Joseph D. Adams Police Building that opened in January 2020, and the building of Fire Station 83. As a City Council we authorized the purchase of property on the west side of Lehi for the future building of Station 84. I understand that our community is growing, which requires that our resources grow to meet the needs of all our families. I am honored to support the men and women who serve in uniform, along with their families, as they answer the call of duty with their willingness to put their life on the line in order to protect each of us, our families, our property, and our constitutional rights.

Sustainable Growth

In 2011, as a Commissioner on the Lehi City Planning Commission, I participated in the revision and approval of the Lehi City General Land Use Plan along with its Master Transportation, Water, and Sewer plans. These plans are the tools that guide city officials in building our city. In 2021 an updated General Plan will be presented to the city council for adoption. In 10 years Lehi has grown by 30,000 residents! Thousands of new homes have been constructed along with commercial properties. As a General Plan gets older the City Council receives more and more requests to alter these plans. It takes time to go through the process of updating a General Plan and all of its components, but as city council we need to review it more frequently to keep it reliable and sustainable. I commit to continuously reviewing the General Land Use Plan, which guides and promotes responsible development.

Lehi is a city with limitless potential and greatness. Her pioneers built a firm foundation for her future.

I’m often asked, “Why are you running for City Council?” My answer is simple, “For my family and yours.” When Wendi and I moved our family to Lehi in 2007 I made a commitment to be involved, to help shape, and make our community the best for families.

Wendi and I have been married for 18 years and have 5 children – two sons and three daughters. Wesley, Aynsli, Emalie, Lily, and Zachariah. My family can be amusing, great, and chaotic all at the same time. We have our good days and our hard days. We are continuously learning about ourselves each day, but one attribute we know about ourselves is that we can do hard things. We are a family of service, a family who cares for others, and a family who is there for one another when times are hard. I love my family, and I am grateful that I get to call them mine.

As a City Council, we created a theme/motto that we follow throughout the year as we plan for the next year. “Develop a Cutting Edge, Family-Centric Community”

Whether it’s adopting the annual budget, revising the general plan, or reviewing an applicant’s request my primary focus is our families. As decisions come before me, I consider: What impacts will it have on our families? How does it help us achieve building a Family-Centric Community? I serve for you, your family, and for mine.

A bit about me:

My education includes an Associate’s in Accounting from Ricks College, Bachelors of Science in Computer Information Systems from the University of Colorado – Denver, and a Masters’s Degree in Public Administration from Oakland University, Rochester, MI.

At 15 I earned the rank of Eagle Scout. My mother and father were a huge support to me in this effort. They spent numerous hours taking me back and forth to activities, Court of Honors, merit badge camps, paperwork, and in the end my Eagle Scout project. After high school, I served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Boston, Massachusetts.

Throughout my life, I have strived to live up to my parents’ example of service. I have taken the opportunity to serve and volunteer in various roles at my employment and in my community. Roles such as:

I currently work for Crucial Leaning as their Director of IT. I started here in March 2020. Prior to Crucial Learning, I worked for EarthSoft, Inc. for almost 13 years, Oakland University in Rochester, MI, and CoBank in Greenwood Village, CO.

I am seeking a third term because I care about your family and mine. Whether it’s the family we grew up in or the family we have created, we all desire the best. Families are at the forefront of my mind as each decision comes before me as a City Councilmember. I know that I have the skills and personality to continue to serve our Lehi family effectively and do so capably, honorably, and with integrity.
