Stonework "facelift" for Renovation Project

DeLuca Home Design was asked to add to and match the stonework of an old Tudor style home that was being completely remodeled. The project was to add an entire new footing around the complete perimeter of the house and install a varied colored sandstone surface  to cover the raised foundation. This gave the home a new stone look. Stones used were "argillite" - brown, yellow and blue sandstones mixed with white granite and bluestone. The new stone "shelf" was topped with a brick edging to both sheer water away from the house facade, and give a strong finish to the new wall surface.

The kitchen above has a white granite countertop, an outdoor fridge, a keg with full bar tap, a 42” Built in natural gas grill, a side burner, and a sink. The island was crafted using Cambridge wall stones (a mix of two colors - natural onyx and toffee onyx mauve, and with a “ledgestone,” or natural feeling, stone facade). The pavers for the patio in the foreground are Cambridge “Limestone Quarry Blend, 3-piece XL.”

The kitchen at right is a custom brownstone kitchen island housing a grill and fridge. This project required us to match existing brownstone walls, and also included building a custom gas fire pit, shown below.

This outdoor kitchen was part of a larger project where DHD built a custom free standing wood burning fireplace. The stones are called “Mystic Strip”. This is a laborious project because each stone is hand cut to fit the style installation. This island has a “Jet Mist" custom granite countertop, and XO appliances - BBQ grill, side burner, and outdoor fridge. It also includes a Kamado Joe wood burning BBQ for Texas style meals.

Stone FIreplace

This project was the completion of a large fireplace centerpiece for this upstate NY home. The work consisted of gathering fieldstone from a neighboring wall, hand cutting the stone to fit, and building from floor to ceiling. The fireplace was built in the center of the home, supporting the cathedral ceilings for the living wing, so the stone veneer runs fully around all 4 sides of the 20’ long, 4’ wide wall, and 13’ peak ceiling height.

You may notice the grout joints toward the bottom are darker in this shot. This is because there was a small amount of stone work previously completed by the owner, so we the last part of the project was to clean out those joints and add new mortar (currently wet in this shot) to match the new stone work above.

This stone project included a custom bookcase built into the stone wall.

This next project consisted of three main components. DHD was asked to take the existing patio and walkway, and create a large outdoor space that included a large 1,000 sf bluestone patio, a free standing wood-burning stone fireplace with sitting walls, and a large outdoor kitchen island.

Existing deck, new space

DeLuca Home Design took our customer's existing deck and dismantled it down to the joists. We reinforced the supports, extended the length, and built out a beautifully wrapped staircase that leads to their back lawn. Railings - for safety and aesthetics - start with chunky 6x6 knotty cedar posts, cast aluminum, powder-coated matte black rungs, topped with smooth, rounded mahogany rails.
