About Excel Dance

After having trained and competed in dance competitions all over the UK for over 28 years, Sharnie Richards launched Excel Dance in 2008 with just one street dance class on a Saturday morning in Beighton. Since then, Excel Dance has grown to teach over 350 students in a full time dance academy open 6 days a week. The fiery passion and unfaltering enthusiasm of Sharnie and the Excel Dance coaches is what has driven that growth and what makes Excel Dance the UK's leading dance academy.

Spanning the whole spectrum of dance styles and techniques, Excel Dance is perfect for those wanting to get into dancing but who don't know what style. Street dance, contemporary and commercial dance are the three main styles taught and you're sure to find your favourite in one of our classes.

People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome at Excel Dance. We have classes for toddlers, children, teens and adults. No previous experience is necessary and we will provide ongoing and consistent support along the journey.

Our age-specific classes for 3-5 years are professionally designed to teach children dance, rhythm, music and important life skills in a fun and exciting way.

Excel Party

A Dance party at Excel is unique, exciting and extremely fun for the birthday boy/girl and all of their friends. Let us do all the work so you can relax and have fun too! We will provide food, cake, drinks, music and all the entertainment for an hour and a half.

Dance Styles

Commercial Dance

Commercial refers to dancing that is usually done in concerts, live shows, musical videos and movies. Bringing the moves alive with personality, dancing to different artists; Commercial Dance is great for any age wanting to show off some real sass!

Street Dance

Does your child love listening and dancing to catchy music on the radio or Alexa? Do they have bags of energy to burn off? Fun and fast-paced, this style of dance is perfect for them! Street dance is one of the most popular styles of dance which teach here at Excel. This class offers upper Tinies for competitions and performances too.

Contemporary

Looking for something a little slower paced? Or a way for your child to express their feelings through music? Just like Billie Eilish in her music video ‘Ocean Eyes’, Contemporary dance is perfect for this! We can’t promise you won’t feel the emotion too though.

Musical Theatre

Does your child sing along and dance to Disney movies? This could be the style just for them! We have two age groups for this style, 5-9 years and 10-13 years, Hakuna Matata - we have it covered!

Adult Street Dance

Missed your calling to be a backing dancer on Top of the Pops?!! Well now’s your chance to fulfil your dream! Ok, so we can’t promise you’ll get to be on TV anytime soon but we can promise you fun, lively and energetic classes with like-minded people! Suitable for complete beginners upwards. Bookable in an 8 week block - your first class complimentary with no obligation!

Dance Tots

A super fun class for 18months/walking - 3yrs. This class is a chance for your little one to Dance, Play and make lots of new friends, we also get to use props and have a little play too whilst also learning rhythm and movement. This is a great way to introduce your little one to the world of dance.

We also like to get the team all together out of the academy at extra family events such as bowling, rollerblading and much more for all of our students to make new friends. I have being dancing for over 22 years now and I still love it as much today. I started dancing at the age of 4 and have trained in many different styles such as ballet, tap, modern, jazz, disco, contemporary, commercial and street dance.
