Since arriving at Pitt to complete his doctorate in 1993, Gene has been at the center of the Oakland bar scene. Taking over Denny's, a beloved, local bar that had fallen on hard times, Gene turned it around and made it his mission to provide the community with a cheap, fun bar where anyone could feel at home.
