Background

The Future of Illinois Pharmacy

In early 2017, the Illinois Pharmacists Association (IPhA) determined that Illinois was ripe to join the boom of local enhanced service networks popping up around the country.  With continued support and communication with the national Community Pharmacy Enhanced Service Network (CPESNSM USA), a group of pharmacists from around the state worked over the summer of 2017 to establish the groundwork of what we now affectionately call the Illinois Community Pharmacy Enhanced Network (I-CPEN). We are focused on expanding our work and reaching out to pharmacies throughout the state to inform and recruit the most engaged and motivated pharmacies to enhance our communities with pharmacy at the forefront. With what we have planned, we hope to change the future of pharmacy.

Enhanced Services?

the focus of the network

In creating the network, the starting committee hammered down five essential services that all pharmacies should provide to best improve clinical outcomes for patients in our communities. These services are not dispensing-related and are usually already performed by the pharmacy in spite of either little to no reimbursement. Our hope is that in collaborating the efforts of pharmacies throughout the state, we can show the importance of the clinical side of our practitioners and demonstrate its impact on our patients.

Our PROMISE

The goal of the I-CPEN is to improve quality of care and patient outcomes related to medication use, enhance patients’ overall health trajectory and reduce total cost of care. Key to the I-CPEN approach is active integration of community pharmacist activity with the larger care team, including the primary care physicians, specialty providers such as behavioral health professionals, and the extended care team of the Patient Centered Medical Home.

What can I do?

Join the network! Our initial focus is to get as many pharmacies joined on as possible to include everyone in the opportunities that  are just around the corner. Click below for our participation agreement.

About Us

we are luminaries of the network, and We are pharmacists just like you!

Our main drive as a network is to advance pharmacy by showing what we already achieve. In working with the IPhA and CPESN USA, we on the I-CPEN Board are hoping to connect pharmacies throughout Illinois and demonstrate the impact pharmacy currently and will have on our communities.
