Welcome to my newly revised Yoga and Fitness based website. I hope you find helpful information. My heart is to help the 50+ population to improve movement patterns so they can be active and do what they love for as long as possible. I’m also offering you a chance to purchase some great yoga/fitness clothes at http://www.myzyia.com/Joan. I’m a new representative for them and am loving the line so far.

I come from a long background of fitness training, having taught group fitness for over 20 years, along with almost that many years of personal training before I added yoga. I am a huge yoga lover after seeing what a difference it has made in my own body, soul and spirit. I move better, enjoy less pain and am overall a much calmer person.

I’ve helped hundreds of people shed weight, become functionally fit and move better in their bodies.  I want to see you fully participating in your life as long as you have breath.

Just like you, I have to make choices daily that help me to stay healthy body, soul and spirit.  I understand that change is hard, but I also understand that being unhealthy and feeling overweight is not easy either.  I will help you make consistent small changes that will add up to a new healthy lifestyle over time.

I love to share health information with my clients and watch as they transform their bodies and minds. With almost 20 years of working with clients as a personal trainer, yoga instructor and health coach I’ve watched clients speak so negatively about themselves. I’m an author and a blogger and want to share part of what I recently posted to my subscribers. Here’s the highlights from that article. Let me know if you want to be added to my bi-monthly blog list.

“You may wonder, what does the mind have to do with my physical body or physical training? Actually what we tell ourselves can manifest in both positive and negative ways in our body.

True lasting change comes when we connect our mind, body and spirit in a way that brings meaning to any exercise program. Our thoughts affect our actions, and positive life-giving thoughts will increase the effectiveness of our workout routines and our daily lives.

Our minds influence our actions, and our actions influence our mind. There’s no separation. Your thoughts direct your actions. Learning to set intentions and being mindful as you workout and go about your day will help you achieve greater success, enjoyment and fulfillment in your daily routines.

What you say to yourself matters. Research supports the complex relationship between the mind and body and how thoughts can change how the body actually functions. When your mind is stressed, your body responds by changing every physiological system to deal with perceived stress. The obvious signals can be observed, such as an increase in heart rate and breathing frequency. Much less obvious symptoms are changes in blood pressure, activation of the nervous system, and the release of stress hormones to combat stress. The same is true when you approach a task with self-doubt: the mind will set up the body to take on the task with apprehension and doubt. When the mind is set in a place of optimism and strength, the body and physiological systems prepare you for a positive outcome. As we focus the mind on positive thoughts we will begin to rewire the brain and nervous system to move us in our desired direction.

Where might you try this out? For me, it’s going to be on the golf course. Each summer when I come back to MN I struggle to get used to the different grass compared to FL. Instead of telling myself that I can’t hit well from this different type of grass, I will approach the ball with an empowering thought that it’s just a new challenge and I’ll conquer it. How much more fun and positive is that idea. I realize golf is a very simplistic example, but hopefully you see how you can apply that to other situations you face. I try to help my clients look at themselves with a more positive and life-enhancing viewpoint.

I read a great book years ago that I would highly recommend if you want more detailed information on how your mind influences your physical body. The title is “Your Body Speaks your Mind” and the author is Deb Shapiro.

Go forward today with a positive mindset and start doing things that help to rewire your mind for good things.

I’m available for 1:1 fitness and yoga services if you’d like to get started with a new exercise routine. Be well my friends.
