Instructions from Tumblr's own Help Center on how to find it both on the web and on mobile.

  • Automattic will sign a contract with OpenAI for Midjourney to learn off of Tumblr and Wordpress

Hello! Automattic, Tumblr's parent company, will sign a contract with OpenAI and Midjourney so Midjourney can learn off of Tumblr's and WordPress' art and other user data. :) (The full text of this article is copy/pasted in the cut below). You can opt out! but I truly cannot imagine a more idiotic or out of touch decision on the part of Tumblr's CEO.

First thing's first: When/if this goes live, opt out of this immediately. Do this even if you're not an artist. The more people opt out, the less valuable this contract is to Midjourney. in an ideal world, literally all of the active users would opt out, but if we can even get to 50% that's pretty delicious.

Second: Contact Tumblr Support. It's vital that you do this politely. Tumblr staff is not responsible for this decision and the point of doing this is to show the userbase's unwillingness to be involved in this, not harangue Tumblr staff. (Seriously, stop haranguing Tumblr staff). Here's a script:

Hi, I'm writing in to express my disappointment in Automattic's pending contract with OpenAI to sell user data. Midjourney is already embroiled in copyright lawsuits, and it is not possible to train it without compromising copyright, including violating the IP of artists on this site. I strongly protest this contract and will opt out if it goes live. Depending on the privacy terms around what user data is sold to OpenAI and why, it is possible I will leave the platform entirely. Thank you for your time.

Third: Download Glaze and start poisoning them prompts, my friends

Fourth: Stare into the middle distance for a second with me because holy fucking shit? How stupid can one decision be?

The podcast episode is finally out today so here are pics from the best day ever. This summer I was invited along with a small group of fellow superflans to a special live recording of Office Ladies. It was a mailbag episode where the ladies opened various gifts and products they have received and read some fan questions (including a Star Wars related question from yours truly). Afterwards there was a reception with small plates and Scotch & Splenda (actually delicious!) and the ladies visited with everyone. I got to show them my drawings in person which was truly a dream come true. A magical day all around, my heart is still soaring with the eagle’s nest.

  • Next in my office art revisit is the other great office romance, Dwight and Angela. I was asked to create this piece for Jenna and Angela’s book Office BFFs. In the book, Angela Kinsey recalls having to sing in the Benihana Christmas episode and how nervous she was but Rainn Wilson kneeled down in front of her to keep time and be her support. Knowing that story makes the moment and the drawing of it all the more special.

For those interested in materials, this drawing was made using my current go-to pencils: Caran D’Ache Luminance and Derwent Lightfast (and a few Derwent Drawings since I have yet to find a pencil I like more for hair).

  • Next up on my Office drawing revisit is this moment from the episode where Jim has a house party and he and Pam share this little moment in his room, or his ‘home office’ as Pam puts it. This was a pretty ambitious one with quite a bit of background drawing for me (I simplified the clutter on Jim’s desk and decided to not mess with the cork board on the wall). But what really makes this drawing special is it got me a shoutout on Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s Office Ladies podcast, as well as an Instagram regram from Jenna. After that I somehow stayed on their radar because a year and a half later I was asked to illustrate a couple pieces for their book Office BFFs. Because of all that this one really hold a special place.

  • Next favorite Office piece is definitely one of my most popular. I love this scene where Jim and Pam share earbuds and sway to music from his iPad (RIP). For this one I drew the figures on one paper and the background on another and the result came out very nicely. Still mostly Derwent Drawing but at this point I started incorporating some Faber-Castell Polychromos.

I remember when drawing this that I thought the paper mache head would be easy compared to drawing Michael himself but I was very wrong about that 😅 still this was a fun one

  • My next fave office piece is this moment from the 2nd episode of Season 2. I had the idea early on to mimic the focus shift from Pam and her mom to Jim pretending he didn’t hear Pam’s mom just ask about him (but the smile coming out anyway). I drew one piece then used Photoshop (which I’m kind of an expert at) to get the out-of-focus look. The effect came out nicely, and I also still love the hair and the jellybean container.

  • In honor of an exciting thing I have coming up this month, I’m gonna reblog some of my favorite Office pieces over the next couple weeks. This was the 2nd office piece I did and still am pretty happy with it. At this time I was almost exclusively using Derwent Drawing pencils, hence why the red straws and green coasters aren’t very brightly colored (they are great for hair and fur and are still what I mostly use when coloring hair).
