Lauren McShane, Cello

Lauren McShane is a freelance cellist and teacher in Seattle. She performs regularly with Portland Cello Project, Seattle Rock Orchestra, and Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra. In addition to performing, Lauren is passionate about teaching. She believes that curiosity should lead learning; and each student has a unique way of engaging with the world that can facilitate learning. She also believes music should be taught in a positive atmosphere, motivated by musical, emotional, and technical growth. She teaches a full private cello studio, alongside Holy Names Academy, Snoqualmie Strings, and is faculty at Icicle Creek Summer Symphony

term policies

We have switched over to a term schedule! This means each student receives 9 lessons per term, April-June. Creating a consistent cello environment helps create consistent cello playing, so students must make every effort to attend all lessons. Students are allowed 2 absences which will be fulfilled at the end of the term. Any further absences will not be credited to end of term and will not be reimbursed.

payment

Payment must be received by April 21 to guarantee a lesson time.

STUDENT PREPARATION AND PRACTICE

While studying cello can produce within us a sense of discipline, prepare us for an artistic career and improve our physical awareness, fundamentally music teaches and prepares us for life's lessons.

It is the goal of Lauren’s studio to foster discipline, teamwork and dedication to challenge all students to achieve their highest potential as an individual and ensemble member. Students are expected to have a consistent level of commitment to their lessons and ensemble classes. If there is an ongoing problem with attendance or preparation, the student may be asked to withdraw from the program.

Rescheduling lessons

Cellists are asked to reschedule a week in advance, or at least 24 hours before lesson time. Cellists may do so by either swapping with another student found on the studio calendar, or contacting Lauren via email about the open lesson time slots listed in the studio calendar page.

If neither of these options work, students are allowed 3 makeup lessons at the end of term.

If Lauren cancels a lesson due to illness or professional concerts, the lesson will be rescheduled at a mutually convenient time.

planned absence

If cellists have planned vacations or long absences during term, be sure to talk to Lauren about prorating the term prior to start of term. Any other vacations or absences will be used towards the 2 make up lessons at end of term.

New students

New students are offered prorated term pricing dependent on when the student starts lessons.
