Mechanical & Reliability Engineering

Pragmatic, Site-experienced Engineers delivering Design, Certification and Asset Reliability Services to the Mining, Power and Petroleum Industries

Mechanical Engineering & Design

Mechanical Design

Having designed mechanical equipment for some of the most reputable brands, and harshest operating environments, we are well versed in providing complete end to end design solutions which include Engineering Calculations, CAD modelling, Drafting, and creation of MTO’s.

We have experience in the Design, Specification and Certification of the following:

  • Mechanical Equipment to AS3990:1993

  • Structures to AS4100:2020

  • ROPS/ FOPS to AS2294

  • Welds to AS1554:2004

  • Jacks & Stands

  • Lifting Equipment

  • Conveyors, Chutes and associated material handling systems

  • Pumping Systems

Finite element analysis (FEA)

Pardus makes extensive use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software in the design and analysis of structures and equipment.

Along with extensive experience with FEA we also have experience in determining load combinations to generate a comprehensive simulation of load events on a structure.  We perform the following:

  • Static and Dynamic Simulations

  • Non-linear simulations (Harmonics, plastic deformation, large deflections, sliding & contact problems)

  • Fracture mechanics (for determining maximum allowable crack size and new operating limits)

  • Fitness for Service (FSS) Assessments/Modelling

  • Forensic Engineering

Engineering Certification (RPEQ, NER)

The Professional Engineers Act 2002 requires all engineering designs for use in the state of Queensland to be signed-off by a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ).

At Pardus, we RPEQ/ NER certify all of our own designs, but can also do certification work for other 3rd party designs.

Reliability Engineering & Asset Management

Asset Lifecycle Modelling

Obtaining the lowest cost of ownership for your capital assets is essential to running a profitable operation. Common questions asked by our clients include:

  • Should we Rebuild, Replace, Hire or Run To Failure?

  • If a combination of the above, where within the lifecycle should this happen?

  • One of our capital assets has had an unforeseen damage event. Is it still financially feasible to repair?

  • We’ve received multiple equipment hire proposals with various terms. Which ones will fulfil our production requirements whilst keeping the cost of ownership at a minimum?

We can create detailed financial models using data from your operation’s CMMS, Parts & Supply contacts with OEM’s and Reliability data. We create built-in scenario analyses for you to quantify the effect of Interest rate, FOREX and Cost of Capital fluctuations over the life of the operation to give a confidence level of the decision.

Reliability Engineering & Support

We offer a a wide range of reliability engineering services that offer direct value in increasing your assets availability and reducing unplanned downtime.

We offer the following services:

  • Developing FMECA’s

  • Calculating optimal maintenance/inspection intervals

  • Calculating optimal spares requirements for a certain level of system reliability

  • Weibull Analysis and determining the best maintenance tactics

  • Analyzing condition monitoring data (Vibration and Tribology) and estimating Remaining Useful Life of components

  • Developing Reliability Improvement Programs

Operational Engineering Support

SHMS Development/ Risk Assessment preparation/ Procedure Development

In the tightly regulated world of mining, crafting robust risk assessments and operational procedures is no small feat. It involves not just technical know-how but a deep dive into historical incidents, industry trends, Technical Resource Guides, and ever-evolving legislation. All of these elements combine to create a comprehensive system of work designed to minimize risk effectively.

We understand that operational engineers are strapped for time and require quick, yet precise solutions. When you say, "I need this," we instantly get it cause we’ve been in the role before.

Our practical operations expertise allows us to understand your needs swiftly and deliver tailor-made, high-quality assessments and procedures that keep your mining operations safe, compliant, and efficient.

Business Case Development & Risk Modelling

Investing in business improvement initiatives often entails significant capital expenditure (CAPEX) or operational expenditure (OPEX). Such investments demand more than just a basic Business Case; they require sophisticated financial models that include multiple scenarios, comply with accounting standards, and offer detailed sensitivity and risk analyses.

At Pardus, we elevate your decision-making with Monte Carlo simulations, enabling us to quantitatively evaluate various scenarios within your financial model. This provides actionable insights like "There's a 90% probability of exceeding the budget by 8%," empowering your decision-makers with data they can rely on.

Furthermore, our engineering team isn't just technically adept; some of us also hold qualifications in Accounting & Finance. This ensures that the financial models we develop not only stand up to rigorous analytical scrutiny but also effortlessly navigate the requirements of your Commercial department.
