Meet The Authors

NAZAAHAH A. AMIN, E-RYT

Nazaahah Amin, MS, C-IAYT, E-RYT, YACEP is a certified yoga therapist and advanced yoga teacher with over 18 years of experience practicing and teaching yoga to communities of color. Her mission is to empower and heal Black women through yoga, self-care and sisterhood. She is passionate about alleviating socio-economic health disparities in low-income communities.

She is the owner of Ama Wellness, a yoga therapy practice for Black women and girls located in West Baltimore. Her practice specializes in therapeutic yoga for PTSD, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, grief, cancer, women’s reproductive health and race-based trauma.

Ms. Amin currently facilitates private and group yoga therapy sessions for mothers in Baltimore City Public Schools while working on an initiative to serve single mothers in under-served communities.

She is a former elementary/middle school teacher, and in 2017 she co-founded a girls empowerment non-profit, Bmore Empoweredwhere she currently serves as the Program Director. She received a Master of Science in Yoga Therapy at Maryland University of Integrative Health where she currently serves as Clinic Faculty in the school’s Yoga Therapy department.

When she’s not leading sessions you can find her traveling the world with her teenage son, Asad; sharing tea with sista-friends and handcrafting blends for her aromatherapy company, Ama Scents.

DR. MUSLIMAH ‘ALI NAJEE-ULLAH

Dr. Muslimah ‘Ali, The Fitness Doc, is a Doctor of Anatomy and Neuroscience (Ph.D., Howard University, 2009). She is a fitness expert, community health advocate, and science educator. As the founder of Fit and Healthy You with Dr. ‘Ali, she crafts unique health and fitness programs to educate, motivate, and inspire individuals to grow through a healthy lifestyle evolution. A fitness inspiration and recreational athlete, Dr. ‘Ali is a marathoner, triathlete, and health foodie!

Dr. ‘Ali is a certified group fitness instructor, and Zumba & STRONG by Zumba instructor. She is known for facilitating national distinct health and fitness programs; Including: the fun annual January Photo-A-Day Challenge, and Five Rounds Fit Camp, and 100 Days of Fitness – which are efficiently designed for all fitness levels. In 2020, she launched the international Eid-to-Eid Virtual Fitness Challenge, promoting 20 minutes of exercise daily, from Eid ul Fitr to Eid-ul Adha; with close to 100 participants, and fitness trainers from all over the world.

The Fitness Doc’s first fitness love is running! She shares that gift with others as an RRCA certified run coach. She has trained over 150 people to successfully compete in 5K, 10K, and half marathon races. Muslimah’s leadership as a Muslim woman athlete, is highlighted in a feature in the Huffington Post for successfully leading the first all-Muslim women’s Ragnar Road Relay Team (a relay race of 200+ miles over 2 days) in Washington, DC.

As a community health advocate, Dr. ‘Ali works with hospitals, universities, community health organizations, and religious institutions to provide a practical, hands on approach to health education. Her work is most impactful in underprivileged populations; particularly low-income households, women, and senior citizens. She facilitates evidenced based programs; targeting chronic disease prevention & management, nutrition education, and falls prevention for seniors. Dr. ‘Ali is devoted to improving health outcomes and quality of life for those least likely to have easy access to good standards of care.

A native of Savannah, GA; Dr. ‘Ali spends plenty of time teaching or working out in the gym, engaging the community, or logging miles on the pavement, outside of her passion for health and fitness, she can be found traveling with her husband Tariq, and homeschooling their five wonderful children.
