Our practice, Ashmore & Golden, LLC, has been providing exceptional quality procedures for patients in Northeast Georgia for over thirty years.  Dr. Richard Golden, Jr. joined the practice in 1992.  The founding partner, Dr. Randan Ashmore, retired in early 2016. Together they have helped over 25,000 people save their teeth.  

As an endodontist, even though all we do is root canal therapy, Dr. Golden always takes the time to be sure root canal therapy is what you need before he starts a procedure.

Meet Your Doctor

  • Richard E Golden, Jr, DDS


    Dr. Golden grew up in Winder where his late father was a general dentist and his sister, Maria Golden Hulsey, is a dental hygenist.   

    After graduating from Winder-Barrow High School, Dr. Golden attended Oxford College. He transferred to Emory University where he graduated in 1979 and went directly to Emory University School of Dentistry, graduating in 1983.  After dental school, Dr. Golden was offered a General Practice Residency at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California.  He practiced Dentistry as a General Dentist for five years in the U.S. Navy.  Dr. Golden then completed a Residency in Endodontics at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland.

    Dr. Golden is a member of the American Dental Association, Georgia Dental Association, American Association of Endodontists, Georgia Association of Endodontists, the Southern Endodontic Study Group, and the Clarke County Dental Society.  He attends multiple continuing education courses every year to keep abreast of any new studies that can help make your treatment successful.

    Dr. Golden is married to Debbie and they have two adult children, Richard and Jennifer. Two dogs complete the family.  He is an active member of Athens First United Methodist Church and he supports several local charities as well.  When not taking care of patients, Dr. Golden enjoys wood turning, shooting, photography, automobiles, and music. He and his family spend many weekends camping in the North Georgia mountains.
