Skyler Loyd is a Neo-Classical / New Age Musician, Composer, Visual Artist, Filmmaker and as of 2022 an Author. Primarily based out of Farmington, New Mexico. Loyd's music clashes with Experimental as well as Ambient soundscapes. Loyd's primary instrument is the Piano, but he grew up playing Violin and Cello.
Born Jacob Walter Lacey, to Scott Lacey and Terra Lacey on December 11th, 2000 in Farmington NM. Loyd is the second oldest child. Under his older sister Shawna-Rae. Then under him is his younger sister Larissa and little brother Brandon.
Loyd is of Greek Orthodox Faith, contrary to his Family's Baptist Upbringing. Loyd converted to Orthodoxy in Winter 2019.
Loyd was always exposed to many different types of music at a very young age. He began playing violin at the age of five. After violin, Loyd picked up Cello and then Piano. Loyd wrote his first song at the age of 14 but hadn't begun publically releasing music until the age of 15. At the age of 17, Loyd released his first EP "5 AM" (2016) an electronic / neo-classical release. after a successful EP, Loyd released "Life" a song inspired by "God's Creation". Life went on to be featured on "Aurora's Law" a Drama / Indie Film Starring Quinton Arron and Roxann Fortner. A Year later Loyd released his debut album "Strange Boy" (2018) in which multiple songs were also used in Film as well. After a short break, Loyd released his second full-length album, "Thrones" (2019).
Once Covid-19 hit, Loyd and his family stayed home. During this time, Loyd's mental and physical health began to decline. Loyd suffered from Clinical Depression and Anxiety. This was a turning point in his life, Loyd began writing music about how he felt. How he wished he could just disappear. That's when his 3rd album "The Earth Opened Wide" (2020) was written. "The Earth Opened Wide" became his most popular album yet. Gained his notoriety as a composer. The album centers around mental health and was popular amongst people struggling with mental illness. "The Earth Opened Wide" is a graphic novel, but for music. The album became a staple in his musical work.
