Living in LA with my East Midland roots at heart

The first time I’d seen my Dad cry was when he came to see KICKING OUT, a play about racism in football. I was cast as the lead Indian male (the boy haircut and tomboy attitude helped greatly), afterwards my Dad opened up to me about the racial abuse he too had suffered as an immigrant in England. The play had a profound effect on the school, myself and my fellow students. We finally integrated with one another instead of staying in our cultural, ethnic or social groupings. It even made the news! So, at 14, I decided I want to be an actor to help raise awareness surrounding issues like racism knowing the power that theatre had.

As a teenager I was picked to join the Central Television Workshop, there I harnessed my TV skills on popular British shows. Later I moved to London to classically train as a Meisner Actor for three years. Upon moving to America I studied film acting in New York, and comedy sitcom in Los Angeles.

I now work predominantly in the US and UK. I have been a BAFTA Newcomer / emerging talent in LA for the past four years. This program helps new artists in Los Angeles develop and hone their creative skills. It has helped me to connect with other artists and create some exciting new projects with a global entertainment community.

Born in India, raised in Nottingham and now living in Los Angeles, I believe this unique cultural background has been key in helping me identify with broader audiences, playing a range of characters from an American FBI Agent, an Indian Aunty to a British Chef.

Oh and cooking is my other love! I continue to develop my online comedic cooking show on Facebook - ‘Honey’s Kitchen TV’ with a self-created larger than life character - Aunty Honey!
