Martin Stokhof is emeritus professor of philosophy at the University of Amsterdam, where he is affiliated with the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC).

Currently he is part-time Jin Yuelin professor at the Department of Philosophy at Tsinghua University, and member of the Tsinghua University – University of Amsterdam Joint Research Centre for Logic.

Stokhof studied philosophy and linguistics at the University of Amsterdam, where he received his PhD in 1984 on a joint dissertation with Jeroen Groenendijk. He held various positions at the University of Amsterdam, the Radboud University in Nijmegen, and Tsinghua University in Beijing.
