The SLOpickers is a 4-piece bluegrass string band from San Luis Obispo, CA
The SLOpickers are a 4-piece bluegrass string band based out of San Luis Obispo, CA. They perform a grassy array of repertoire ranging from traditional tried-and-true bluegrass standards to more contemporary original compositions. Founding members, Joel Demir (guitar) and Justin Martinez (mandolin), got their start on the scene booking private events as an instrumental bluegrass duo and eventually grew to add banjo (Scott Morris), upright bass (Scott Conroy), and three-part vocal harmonies. The band’s original works hint at the founders’ classical training background while keeping that foot-tapping bluegrass feel. At their shows, the SLOpickers carry on the bluegrass tradition of performing around a single microphone, which makes for an entertaining “stage dance” harkening back to classic bluegrass performances at the grand ole opry in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
