INDIVIDUAL

Our bread and butter (and favorite), individual tutoring is just that: individualized. We will assess current writing and/or reading levels, take note of current assignments and struggles, and tailor each session to encourage students' strengths and improve areas of weakness. Whether your student is below, at, or above grade level, we believe everyone should aim high to be the best thinker and communicator possible. Schedule your consultation today!

GROUPS

Age-alike groups of six-to-ten students may opt for a writing or reading intensive: five days of fast-paced strategy learning and implementation with feedback throughout each session. Students will see a marked improvement in execution of writing or reading tasks, all with less stress and greater confidence. Contact us for details on assembling age-alike students and scheduling information.

... TAKE THEIRS!

Here's a peek at what parents and students are saying about the success they've found with Writing Simplified:

FLORIN & IULIA T., PARENTS

"One size fits all wasn't even an option in our case (because both children come to English from different directions). Mrs. Jennifer is customizing her teaching based on student likes, working with her/him in such a way that the student doesn't even know they are addressing weak points. We highly recommend her because she is preparing the children for the future, not only addressing the present needs and wants."

EMMA J.

Emma struggled to write a character analysis essay and thought her problem was with knowing how to write. As we dug into the process of understanding her task, it became clear that Emma needed strategies to help her focus while reading. Emma had been reading the text superficially; after only a couple tutoring sessions, her reading approach completely changed and paved the way for her to make her own deep analysis of each character. Once Emma had a firm grasp of the novel itself, it was natural for her to write her best response to literature, using the writing tools from Mrs. Davis.

MASON H.

From an F to an A in one month, Mason learned how to annotate a text for recall and could suddenly handle his online curriculum! Not only that, but he went from having no idea what to write on essay assignments, to fully developing an outline that translated into proficient essays. Mason hated English, but Mrs. Davis gave him the tools he needs to do well.

bio

Jennifer Davis holds California Bilingual credentials in English Language Arts and Spanish, and began teaching high school in 2006. Teaching classes ranging from freshmen to seniors, from remediation to accelerated level, she developed strategies tailored to each class and each student, adjusting goals and methods as necessary.

After her fourth child came along in the fall of 2013, Jennifer chose to leave the classroom to focus on family. Tutoring individual students brings the ideal professional arrangement: time to dedicate to her family, with rich student interactions on an individual and small-group basis.

When not shuttling children or meeting with students, Jennifer's favorite hobbies are cooking, writing, and practicing sailing in the picturesque San Diego Bay. She lives with her husband, Aaron, and their four daughters ages 4-11.
